Colleen joined Sydney Osteopathy in 2017 after more than 30 years working as an Osteopath in Sydney and New Zealand.
She has Bachelor of Science in Anatomy & Physiology ( NZ ) that she graduated with before a further two and half year Post Graduate diploma in Osteopathy in Sydney at the International College of Osteopathy in 1989. Colleen has attended many specialized courses as such as Cranial Osteopathy in the US.
Colleen works on all general muscular pains both acute and chronic for issues of back, neck & extremities using a broad range of Osteopathic techniques including manipulation and soft tissue work. However she does prefer to use Indirect Osteopathic Techniques of Functional, Cranial Osteopathy and Counter-strain.
These Indirect Techniques are used when treating babies, children and older adults. In the later years of life when there is more potential of disc and joint degeneration with arthritis, these methods of Osteopathic treatment may ease discomfort.
On the first visit she will take a detailed history followed by a physical examination that will include neurological & orthopaedic tests to be sure to isolate origins of the problem. Reports such as X-Rays or Scans are of great value- so please be sure to bring copies of those along if possible. Then she will also provide her understanding of causes and what treatment is required.
All treatments are focused on improving flexibility and function right from the first appointment.
Colleen has areas of interest in working with but not limited to:
- Foot pain for example Plantar Fasciitis
- Jaw pain
- Knee pain for example Patellar tracking Syndrome
- Pregnancy related issues and Newb
In a typical clinic day she sees patients from all ages.
Advice is given on work ergonomics and exercise choices for assisting recovery. Thus a patient can increase their own ability to help maintain their problems themselves. The aim is for the patient to take away after a few treatments some tools to restore confidence and understand the possible causes of their pain or lack of flexibility.
